John Denver was a superstar artist who was a hit with his pop-folk songs, many of which were located in Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, the singer-songwriter fell in love with Colorado and eventually relocated to Aspen. Take Me Home Country Roads is Denver's only Top 10 Hit as a Solo Artist following his time in small Folk Music Groups. The song was composed with Bill Danoff. Danoff wrote the track for Johnny Cash but Denver recognized the potential of the single after hearing it first. The song was first recorded several weeks after it was performed in Washington D.C. performance.
